A SELECTION OF THINGS TO SEE AND DO IN AND AROUND DUNVEGAN

The Tables seen across Loch Dunvegan

For history lovers:

Dunvegan Castle, seat of the Clan MacLeod. After a tour of the castle, where you can see the Fairy Flag (the treasured possession of the Clan MacLeod) you could walk through the beautifully maintained castle gardens and perhaps take one of the regular seal-spotting boat trips out along Loch Dunvegan.

For the more energetic:

What could be better than to climb one of the two MacLeod’s Tables or, for those who prefer their walking to be less of an uphill struggle, perhaps a walk out to the MacLeod’s Maidens.

For lovers of wildlife and nature:

In addition to the spectacular sunsets we experience here in Skye, from time to time, we are treated to amazing displays of the Northern Lights.

Skye is a fantastic place to view sharks, dolphins, porpoises, otters, seals, sea eagles, golden eagles, buzzards, merlins, sparrowhawks, herons, highland cattle and, of course, the inevitable sheep.

Whale Watching in Glendale, Isle of Skye and Birds and Bird Watching on Island of Skye.

For art lovers:

Skye in general is home to many talented artists and Dunvegan is no exception. Well worth a visit are the Croft Studio in Dunvegan, the Dun Studio at Roskhill (paintings by John Bathgate), Orbost Gallery at Orbost and the Raven Press Gallery in Colbost.

For museums with a difference:

Giant Macaskill Museum, Colbost Croft Museum, Holmisdale toy museum and Borreraig piping museum.

For water lovers:

Fresh water loch trout fishing, sea angling trips, rock fishing and diving are all available.

For beach combers:

There are beaches at Varkasaig (black volcanic sand) and Coral Bay (not actual coral but tiny fragments of a type of seaweed, giving the beach a brilliant white appearance in bright sunshine).

For food lovers:

The Three Chimneys, Loch Bay Seafood Restaurant, Stein Inn. The Old Schoolhouse Restaurant in Dunvegan.
