HOW TO FIND US
BY ROAD
The best way of getting to Skye is by road, as it not only reduces traveling time but, once you are on the island, it is more convenient to have your own car to go sightseeing.
BY ROAD FROM INVERNESS
From Inverness take the A82 to Invermoriston and turn right onto the A887. Near Cluanie Dam, this road meets up with and becomes the A87 and leads directly to Shiel Bridge. From Shiel Bridge, follow the A87 to Kyle of Lochalsh and then, via the bridge over the sea to Skye.BY ROAD FROM GLASGOW
Go through city center via the motorway and follow the signs for Dumbarton and Loch Lomond (A82) then head for Crianlarich. Take the A82 via Tyndrum, Bridge of Orchy, Rannoch Moor, Glencoe and over the Ballachulish Bridge to Fort William. Once in Fort William take the A82 through Spean Bridge to Invergarry. Turn left at Invergarry onto the A87 towards Kyle of Lochalsh and then, via the bridge, over the sea to Skye.BY ROAD FROM EDINBURGH
Take the M90/A9 after the Forth Road Bridge and head for Perth. Continue past Perth on the A9 following the signs for Inverness until Dalwhinnie. Take the A889 then the A86 to Spean Bridge where a right turn on to the A82 meets the route from Glasgow to Invergarry. Turn left at Invergarry onto the A87 towards Kyle of Lochalsh and then, via the bridge, over the sea to Skye.ONCE ON THE ISLAND follow the road northwards through Broadford as far as Sligachan. At Sligachan turn left and follow the signs for Dunvegan. Once in Dunvegan, keep an eye out for the signs for the Primary School on the right and the Health Centre on the left. Once past the Health Centre, take the next left turn onto a single track road (Mill Road). You have now arrived. Painter's Cottage is the first house on the left and there are two parking spaces on the right just before the house.
Should you decide not to turn left at Sligachan and carry on to Portree, take the Dunvegan Road out of Portree. At Borve follow the left fork in the road which leads to Dunvegan. Once in Dunvegan, turn left at the Dunvegan Hotel, drive straight through the village past the Post Office and the baker’s shop. Immediately past the baker’s shop, turn right onto a single track road (Mill Road) You have now arrived. Painter's Cottage is the first house on the left and there are two parking spaces on the right just before the house.
N.B. If using SatNav, it is advisable to set it for Kyle of Lochalsh rather than for Isle of Skye, otherwise it may well take you via Mallaig which is fine is this is intended but not so fine if you have missed the last ferry and have to double back to Fort William, adding a couple of hours to your journey.
BY AIR
The nearest airport to Skye is Inverness which is about a three hour drive away from Dunvegan. Easyjet operate flights from London (Luton) and British Airways from London (Gatwick) to Inverness. There is car hire available at Inverness airport.
BY TRAIN
The night sleeper runs from London to Inverness from where there are connections to Kyle of Lochalsh. Alternatively, there is a train from Fort William to Mallaig.
